Michael Rogers
Michael RogersExecutive Director and Founder
Michael is a partner and Managing Director of Raw Story Media and Director of Netroots Connect. Previously, he was Director of Development of the Harvey Milk School and NGLTF, Director of Major Gifts at Greenpeace and a senior fellow with the New Organizing Institute. Michael is the lead subject of Outrage, a documentary inspired by the work of his blog, BlogActive. He appears frequently on television and guest hosts for Ed Schultz and Michelangelo Signorile. Michael lives in Washington, DC.
Daniel Villarreal

Daniel is a Texas-born e-Journalist and educator with an MFA in creative writing from Columbia University. He has taught digital writing at Austin College and Netroots Nation and is currently working on his first novel. He is a regular attendee of Netroots Nation, Creating Change and SXSW. He has also served as editor at Queerty and and has written for Towleroad, The Advocate, Bilerico Project, Dallas Voice, Metro Weekly’s Poliglot and The Austin Chronicle. Daniel lives in Dallas, Texas.
Sommer Foster
Sommer FosterSocial Media Editor
Sommer is Director of Political Advocacy for Equality Michigan. She has previously served as a campaign or field organizer for multiple candidates in federal, state, and local elections. Sommer graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in political science and from Jackson Community College with an associate in arts. She is also serving on the Canton Township Library Board of Directors and is an active member of the NAACP and Center for Progressive Leadership.
Scottie Thomaston

Scottie Thomaston lives in south Alabama and is an editor at the Courage Campaign Institute’s He has been an activist for the rights of the queer community, the disability community, and other minorities. He writes under the handle “indiemcemopants” at Daily Kos, Fire Dog Lake, and several other blogs on topics ranging from personal reflections to LGBT rights and criminal justice issues.
Heather Cronk
Heather CronkProgram Advisor
Heather is the Co-Director of GetEqual, the national direct action organization working to empower the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community and our allies. Prior to her work with GetEQUAL, Heather was the Chief Operating Officer at the New Organizing Institute, and has worked with organizations such as mySociety in the U.K. and Heather holds a Master of Divinity degree from Wake Forest University Divinity School in Winston-Salem, NC and lives in Maryland.
